great but Feb 09, 2009 nice headset. the only problem is the charging. the charger plugs into the bottom of the headset with a button like feature. when i say button like you have a round piece that sticks out about a 1/8 of an inch and pushes into the bottom. i moves around a lot causing it to not charge it has to be positioned just right. other than that it works great you can turn that annoying flashing blue light off that's a plus.
excellant headset Feb 08, 2009 I used Amazons help desk to find out if the headset was compatable with my motorola razor 3 cell phone, and it was. When I received the headset it performed excellently.
Thank you
I'd Rather Look Like a Geek Than Sound Like an Idiot Feb 08, 2009 [...] defines the word 'agony' as: "extreme and generally prolonged pain; intense physical or mental suffering," which is EXACTLY how I felt as I did hours of research to plan the purchase of a Bluetooth earpiece.
In reading reviews on Amazon, cNet, and various other websites, I learned that there is no perfect Bluetooth headset. However, after deciding to purchase the Plantronics Voyager 510 and using it for two weeks, I've come to realize that this headset comes pretty fracking close.
I have owned about five different headsets; brands ranging from Jawbone to Motorola to Jabra, and prices ranging from $19.99 to $99. I was pretty skeptical of the 510 being so affordably priced (under $50), thinking that maybe I needed to make an "investment" of over $100 to finally find a headset worth keeping. I have now proved that theory wrong.
The call quality of the headsets I've owned before was satisfactory at best. The person on the other end always knew I was in the car or using my handsfree, and I often had to repeatedly "repeat myself."
ME: "I'm at the grocery store. Do you need anything?"
CALLER: "You're at the hardware store buying a tree?"
ME: "No! The GRO-cer-EE store."
CALLER: "Ohhh! I can barely hear you."
ME: "What?"
How many times have YOU been caught in this conversation because your headset sucks? Or, how many times have you glared at someone in the store because they're the idiot on the phone trying to scream their way through this conversation? It's just not right.
Enter the Plantronics 510. At first glance you think, "I could use this headset to do some play calling for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And Jesus, God Almighty -- did the boom have to be long enough to use as a coat hook?
But it's not as heavy as it looks. In fact, it's remarkably lightweight, folds down when not in use, and the earpiece comes in three different sizes for a "customizable" fit. Oh! And there's also a "wind cover" at the end of the boom, which really does filter out excess noise. (By the way, the earpiece "cover" was itchy and a bit difficult to get used to at first, but after a few hours of wear, I barely notice it. I plan on finding some silicone covers to replace the standard covers that came with the headset.)
The set-up is super easy. I charged mine for the full three hours before pairing it up with my Blackberry Curve and making calls. The sound is EXCELLENT. And even my husband, who is somewhat hearing impaired, couldn't tell that I was using a headset.
I put the 510 to a real test, though, by calling several businesses that I knew had "voice automated" menus. Like AT&T; home phone customer service, Goog411, and DirecTV. And, I did it with my sunroof open while driving on the freeway. All calls were amazingly successful.
There are two reasons why I did not give the 510 a 5-star rating. One: Because this headset is big enough to support a standard micro-sd charger, yet it uses a proprietary device that makes finding a car charger difficult. Two: The on-off button is really poorly placed, as is the volume control. So, I work around this by turning the headset on before I wear it, and use the volume setting on my Blackberry to control call volume.
So, yeah, it's a little big and bulky-looking. But I don't care, as long as the headset is comfortable, I can hear my callers, they can hear me, and my calls don't get dropped, I'm a happy camper.
Excellent product! Feb 07, 2009 This is my second time purchasing this headset, I wore my first one out. Great sound quality, fits well, comfortable. I highly recommend it.
great ear piece but needs some fine tuning. Feb 07, 2009 I get great receptions with this ear piece. people can hear me and don't think for a minute they are on some speaker phone. great quality and very comfortable.
there are a couple of things that need improvement. The removable ear buds got very loose and fell off. they don't stay on very well. I lost one already. The connectiion between the earpiece and cell phone quits at least twice a day. All you need to do is turn the ear piece off then on again and you'll get it back. and last, the on/off button on the top is very small and hard to press to turn on/off. it actually will hurt your finger doing so.
If the voice quality wasn't so great I'd only give it three stars. However, if i lost it I would probably buy it all over again.
